The Danish princess and the British Duchess are often inspired by each other’s style. We recall some of the most striking coincidences of the images of titled persons.
Duchess Catherine in London, October 31, 2018; Crown Princess Mary in Houston, March 12, 2019
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark is not called the “Danish Kate Middleton” for nothing — the two women are similar not only in appearance, but also in style (even the late Karl Lagerfeld called the girls “sisters in style”). Moreover, for many years in a row they have been (consciously or not) inspired by each other’s images. We recall several cases when titled persons appeared in public in very similar outfits.
One-shoulder Dresses

Crown Princess Mary at the Alannah & Madeline Foundation Gala Dinner, Melbourne, November 26, 2011
In 2011, Duchess Catherine appeared at a charity dinner at the National Memorial Arboretum in a flying pale blue one-shoulder dress by Jenny Packham. Just two weeks later, Crown Princess Mary came to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation event in Melbourne in a very similar outfit. Most likely, the images of Mary for the official tour of Australia were selected in advance, and therefore there can be no question of direct copying, but among fans, of course, there were discussions on this topic.
Blue coats
Crown Princess Mary at Copenhagen Fashion Week, January 30, 2018
Duchess Catherine in London, January 11, 2017
Another common passion of the royals is elegant fitted coats in shades of blue. Both women have appeared in similar ones more than once, and it is difficult to track down who was the first.
Green Plaid Coats
Crown Princess Mary in Texas, March 11, 2019
Duchess Catherine in Scotland, January 29, 2019
A more spot-on “replay” is the exits of Duchess Catherine and Crown Princess Mary in 2019. The first one again was the Cambridge one, who appeared in a tight blue-green plaid coat during a trip to Scotland. A few months later, Mary was photographed during a visit to the United States in a looser coat of a very similar color.
Floral Print Dresses
Crown Princess Mary in Texas, March 12, 2019
Duchess Catherine in London, September 5, 2019
In March 2019, the Danish Crown Princess appeared in Houston in a casual red dress with a floral print. In September of the same year, Duchess Catherine took the children to school in a very similar outfit. In this case, if someone “spied on” someone, it was Kate for Mary. But, most likely, this is another coincidence.
Retro-style dresses

Duchess Catherine at Wimbledon, London, July 11, 2021
The powdery pink romantic dress with buttons and a flying hem that Catherine wore to Wimbledon 2021 is almost an exact copy of Mary’s nude dress from Beulah London, in which she was at the opening of the exhibition in 2020.
Matching dresses by Emilia Wickstead
Crown Princess Mary in Tokyo, March 28, 2015
Duchess Catherine in London on October 9, 2018
Duchess Catherine and Crown Princess Mary not only love similar colors and styles, but also wear the same designers. In 2015, the Dane went to Tokyo, where she was photographed in a minimalist pastel blue dress by New Zealand designer Emilia Wickstead. Emilia is one of the favorite fashion designers and the Duchess of Cambridge. Therefore, it is not surprising that three years later Kate was photographed in a dress that differs from Mary’s outfit only in color. It is curious that even the accessories with which the women complemented the images were very similar.

The print in the form of small peas is another common marker of the wardrobe of two royal women. They have appeared more than once in similar outfits with such a pattern.
Red Plaid skirts

Duchess Catherine in London, December 4, 2018
One of the most famous images of Duchess Catherine: a bright red tartan plaid skirt with a black button-down cardigan and high boots, it turns out, is not so original. Literally the day before this release, Crown Princess Mary appeared in a very similar outfit. However, the shade of the skirt in her case was more muted, and instead of a knitted cardigan, the Dane wore a fitted blazer.
