She was one of the most stylish women in the world and remains a fashion icon. She inspired fashion designers, and if desired, she had the most spectacular couture outfits at her disposal. Princess Diana’s style and wardrobe have changed over time, and often in exactly opposite directions. For example, in the first years of marriage, the princess could appear in public in open-toed shoes. However, after some time (when Diana had already managed to get used to the royal dress code), the wife of Prince Charles decided to abandon them, preferring closed shoes.

Author of the book “Diana: secrets of her style” (Diana: The Secrets of Her Style) Diana Cleehan discovered that at various times Lady Dee could be seen in stiletto shoes, ballet flats, rubber boots and even Converse sneakers, but in sandals and open-toed models she appeared in public extremely rarely.

After her engagement to Prince Charles in 1981, she wore shoes with modest 5-centimeter heels so as not to be taller than His Highness. Becoming a member of the Windsor family, she appeared at events in bright low-heeled shoes, perfectly matching her style, which fashion reviewers called “Dynasty Di” (Dynasty Di).

But after parting with the prince, serious changes took place in Her Highness’s wardrobe, including shoes. Diana began to choose high – heeled shoes that accentuated her long , slender legs . She preferred models from Manolo Blahnik (a favorite of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, and, of course, Carrie Bradshaw) and Jimmy Choo (another favorite of Meghan).

“She liked high—heeled strappy shoes the most,” Jimmy Choo said. — She preferred the classic style. Diana never wore sandals because she didn’t like them. She knew that the Queen didn’t like (similar shoe models) either.”

As a member of the royal family, Diana was well aware of Her Majesty’s preferences regarding the choice of clothes and accessories for official events: closed-toe shoes, stockings or tights. “She had beautiful legs. Sometimes she preferred to give up stockings, but invariably chose them when she appeared at an official event with the queen. She has always had great respect for Her Majesty,” says Chu.
