When choosing outfits for particularly important events, the stars prefer not to be petty. In our selection — all the most iconic and expensive images that celebrities have ever tried on: from the scarlet Valentino dress by Anne Hathaway to the historic image of Jennifer Lopez for four million dollars.
Nicole Kidman, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet
Although in everyday life, many celebrities make a choice in favor of budget outfits, stars can rarely afford such things on the carpet. In addition, major events (of which, of course, there were much more before the pandemic) – a great reason to remind the public of your existence and to warm up interest in yourself. Designers also often use this and are happy to provide celebrities with their most unusual and complex creations – dresses completely covered with Swarovski crystals and natural pearls are used. It takes thousands of hours of work to create the most iconic masterpieces, but the result is worth it. We show which outfits cost the most.
Jennifer Lawrence at Dior ($80,000)
After Jennifer Lawrence signed a contract with the House of Dior, the designers of the French brand are engaged in the star’s outfits for major events. However, if someone wants to repeat the image of their idol, they will have to pay a good amount for the outfit. In 2014, at the Oscar ceremony, the star decided to bet on red and chose a laconic floor-length strapless dress with a peplum. The cost of such a concise and stylish outfit, according to various estimates, was $ 80,000.
Anne Hathaway at Valentino ($80,000)
In 2011, Anne Hathaway was chosen as the host of the Oscar ceremony, and the actor James Franco was her company. During the evening, the star changed several impressive outfits, but the most sensational was, of course, the image for the carpet. Here the actress shone in a red Valentino creation — a lush floor-length dress in the most iconic color for the Italian House. In addition to such a stunning outfit, she chose an equally “weighty” jewelry – a necklace with Tiffany & Co. “Lucinda” worth $ 10 million.
Kate Winslet in Valentino ($100,000)
Oscar is rightfully the leader among events where stars try to dress especially expensively. Kate Winslet’s mint green Valentino dress also debuted at the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts Awards in 2007. The Greek-style outfit worth $100,000 was reportedly chosen by the actress’ daughter Mia (and she clearly has good taste).
Charlize Theron at Dior ($100,000)
Another lover of the Dior brand is Charlize Theron, who wears the most iconic works of the French House with special chic. For the Academy Awards in 2013, the star decided to choose a boiling white strapless dress worth $100,000. Although the price is already quite significant, the star decided to complement it with Harry Winston diamond bracelets, as a result of which the cost of this elegant image increased to a whopping four million dollars.
Lupita Nyong’o at Calvin Klein ($150,000)
The case when the high cost of Lupita Nyong’o’s outfit attracted not only fashion critics, but also criminals. In 2015, at the Academy Awards, the actress shone in a $150,000 Calvin Klein outfit made to order from more than 6,000 pearls. The star bathed in compliments all evening, and everything would have been fine if it hadn’t been for the sensational cost of the image: after the ceremony, an unknown criminal stole an outfit from the actress’ hotel room. However, I didn’t have to look for an image for a long time. Two days later, the thief himself returned the dress to the hotel. The criminal removed two pearls from the outfit and tried to sell them, but they turned out to be artificial. The dress was placed in a black garbage bag and left in the bathroom of the hotel room.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé ($200,000)
A laconic dress studded with iridescent Swarovski crystals is always a win-win option. The perfect example in 2007 was shown to us by Cate Blanchett, who conquered Armani Privé with a sparkling bronze outfit at the Academy Awards ceremony.
Paris Hilton at August Getty ($270,000)
Who, if not Paris Hilton, knows a lot about sparkling and bright outfits. In 2017, the glamorous star of the noughties attended the Hollywood Beauty Awards, where she was to be awarded for the best fragrance. The it-girl decided to be the center of attention and chose a stunning August Getty dress for $270,000, decorated with 500,000 Swarovski crystals.
Nicole Kidman at Dior ($2,000,000)
In 1997, Nicole Kidman made a real splash on the Oscar carpet. The star appeared in front of the public in a silk dress, which was strikingly different from the outfits of other Hollywood celebrities who prefer classics and win-win (and therefore more boring) outfits. Kidman’s dress attracted attention with its unconventionality — the actress’ star husband Tom Cruise clearly remained in the shadows that evening. The unusual outfit was created for Nicole by the Dior brand under the direction of John Galliano. The cost of the couture image was two million dollars. And considering that for two decades the price of a dress could only increase, this image remains to this day one of the most expensive in history.
Jennifer Lawrence at Dior ($4,000,000)
A voluptuous strapless dress from Dior would have gone down in fashion history anyway. In 2013, Jennifer Lawrence won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film “My Boyfriend is Crazy” and stumbled while climbing the stairs for the coveted award. The star was not upset and after the ceremony cheerfully posed in front of photographers in her impeccable classic image. The pale pink outfit cost a fabulous four million dollars. The decision not to spare any money was probably part of her collaboration with the Dior brand, since that year Lawrence shone with might and main in the advertising campaigns of the French House and collected magazine covers.
