We tell you what aspects of appearance should be taken into account when choosing a coloring color.
Knowing your skin tone and color type can surprisingly make life easier when it comes to coloring or updating makeup habits. Skin tone (the division into cold, warm and neutral is considered classic) — this is what is always with you: with a tan in hot summer or in winter with its inevitable pallor.
The color type is a complex characteristic of your image, which consists of a palette of skin tones, hair, eye color. It is belonging to one of the tones or color types that determines the fact that not all coloring options will suit you. We are figuring out how not to get confused in all the variety of color palettes and choose the perfect combination for yourself.
How to determine the palette depending on the skin tone
To do this, you should first clean your skin and choose the right lighting: sit in front of a window or outdoors, preferably under the sun, so that no ray of artificial light spoils your research.
The first method is very simple: take a close look at the color of the veins appearing on the inside of your wrist. If it is difficult to determine the color, then most likely you are the owner of a neutral tone (especially likely if you have olive skin). Neutrality gives you every right to fearlessly try any coloring palettes you like. Green color speaks for a warm skin tone, and blue or purple — for a cold one.
It will be ideal if you set the skin tone in the area behind the auricle: yellowish indicates a warm tone, while pinkish or pink indicates a cold one. If it is difficult to determine here, you can use white paper and evaluate the skin color by contrast.
Shades of blonde
A blonde with a light blueness will perfectly complement the skin of a cold tone with a reddish tinge. Its owners can also try the pink blonde popular today: the last word in this trend is behind the metallic sheen.
Warm blonde variations are the right choice for a cold skin tone with a hint of blue: for him, the palette can include gold, caramel, amber, honey. Honey and caramel blonds are also good for olive skin and neutral – tone skin .
In the case of a pronounced warm tone, it is not recommended to choose warm shades of blonde: this can turn into an unpleasant yellowness. The original choice for a neutral tone is a peach blonde, which is especially popular with celebrities.
Shades of brown
Chestnut, mocha, dark chocolate, dark chestnut – nature has reserved these juicy shades for girls with a warm skin tone. If there is a hint of yellowness in it, then cold brown shades will add brightness to the skin. Golden brown, honey, amber are perfect for owners of medium-warm skin tone.
Shades of red
Cold red shades – burgundy and pure red – will be an ideal combination with cold-tone skin with a red undertone. The bluish-red palette of your hair will pleasantly highlight your face and prevent the undesirable effect of blush and red face.
Warm red shades are harmoniously combined with neutral and light skin tones – starting with strawberry blonde and ending with copper. When coloring in red, do not forget to stock up on special shampoo and rinse aid to maintain color saturation for a long time.
Shades of black
Shades of dark mocha, cocoa, brown-black are suitable for a cold skin tone. Such shades of black as espresso, blue-black or pure black will perfectly emphasize the beauty of the skin of a warm tone.
But who said that classic coloring colors are the only way to a stylish image? At your disposal is the entire rainbow palette, extremely rich in shades – you can’t try it in a lifetime. We take a couple of notes for a note: warm shades (pink, orange, yellow) look best with a cold skin tone. For coloring in blue or purple, we take into account the factor of “yellowness” of the skin: if there is one, the result is doomed to luck and aesthetics.
Coloring palette depending on the color type
Let’s make a reservation right away that the classification of color types has long grown and exceeded the usual division into Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. In each of them, colorists have already managed to identify contrasting, soft and other subtypes, which significantly complicates the process of selecting shades for coloring. A competent specialist will always help you decide on the exact one at a personal meeting, but first we asked stylist Lusine Mutafyan to share brief recommendations on coloring for each of the generally recognized four color types in order to outline a vector.
“The skin of a Winter girl can be either porcelain-white, pale, without blush, or olive. The hair is dark brown or blue-black, and the eyes have a bright saturated color: gray, blue or brown. Contrasting combinations and bright shades suit you” (What is the “Winter” color type).
“Girls of the Spring color type have light or transparent skin with a touch of ivory or bronze tint. The hair is usually light, wheat-honey, and the eyes are blue, green or nutty. For coloring, it is better to choose warm shades” (What is the “Spring” color type).
“If your color type is Summer (thin olive or ivory skin and soft eyes), it will be easy for you to choose the right hair color among a wide range of shades of cold blonde and light brown” (What is the color type “Summer”).
“The Autumn girl’s hair shines with gold or copper. The skin is either transparent white with freckles, easily burned in the sun, or dark, beige-golden. The eyes are brown, green with golden sparks, but there may also be gray-blue scales. If your color type is Autumn, bright shades of hair are ideal for you: golden, copper, caramel, amber. Deep and rich shades will emphasize the radiance of your eyes” (What is the “Autumn” color type).
Summing up, it is worth noting that the selection of a hair shade to match the skin tone is a more local approach than the definition by color type, but it is clearer by criteria. In any case, it’s up to you to choose: both options are perfect as a starting point for your next beauty transformation.
