Today, South Korea is considered the capital of plastic surgery, where the number of operations per capita breaks world records. We tell in detail about the most popular directions of beauty transformations in this country (and show illustrative examples).
For years now, the media has been hotly discussing how Korean surgeons magically remake faces and figures, and there are legends about their exceptional skill. What operations are most in demand in the Country of Morning Freshness — we figured out together with a plastic surgeon, the founder of the clinic “Time of Beauty” Otari Gogiberidze.
The popularity of aesthetic surgery in South Korea is really amazing. In Seoul alone there are more than 600 clinics offering injection and surgical methods of changing appearance. At the same time, not only Koreans, but also foreigners actively use the achievements of local medicine. In 2017, tens of thousands of medical tourists spent about $ 190 million on plastic surgery in South Korea, and these figures are growing from year to year.
Previously, there was an opinion that plastic surgery is so popular in Asia because of the desire of local residents to be more like Europeans, but now this statement has lost relevance. Korean women strive to conform to universal ideas about beauty, proportions, symmetry. You can also think about the fact that different countries have different standards of beauty and, accordingly, different procedures are popular.
For example, in South Korea, operations to change the contours of the body are practically not in demand: prosthetics of the mammary glands, buttock correction, abdominal plastic surgery. And in the USA, the top 3 most popular aesthetic procedures include breast augmentation, liposuction and abdominoplasty. Korean girls tend to have softer cheekbones, while European women go crazy for high and pronounced, like top models. Korean women are also much less likely to inject fillers into the lips, and for us this is one of the most popular procedures. So, which plastic surgeries are especially in demand in South Korea?
Upper and lower eyelid correction surgery is popular all over the world. But in Russia, we most often do it to combat age-related changes — gravitational sagging of tissues, loss of elasticity of the eyelid skin. In South Korea, eyelid surgery is done most often by young girls aged 20-30 years in order to change the shape of the upper eyelid.
The fact is that the Asian type of appearance is characterized by a poorly expressed or completely absent fold of the upper eyelid. This feature becomes a serious obstacle for South Korean girls when it comes to makeup. In addition, such a structure of the eyelid gives the facial expression a slightly tired, tired look.
In addition to this, Korean surgeons masterfully create a new shape of the upper eyelid and at the same time can correct the incision of the eyes, raise or lower the outer corner or remove hernias under the lower eyelids.
Nose surgery is also in demand in Europe and America, but the requests of South Korean girls are different. In the case of representatives of the European type of appearance, surgeons often work with soft tissues: adjust the tip of the nose, the size and shape of the nostrils.
Asian appearance suggests a flattened face with a wide nose, so rhinoplasty in Korea is most often aimed at changing the shape of the back of the nose to make it narrower and more pronounced and to form elegant contours in this area. Correction of the tip of the nose for its thinning is also in demand .
Plastic surgery of the chin area of Korean women is done very often. By nature, they most often have round facial features without a pronounced angle of the chin, so they often resort to correcting this area. With the help of an individually created silicone implant, a thin, sharp chin can be formed, which immediately changes the impression of appearance.
Injections into this area are also popular among Korean women — an effective correction technique that can be used as a “rehearsal” before plastic surgery. European girls are more often asked to make a solid, pronounced chin, while Asian women are more likely to strive for a thin, sharp corner in this area.
