The famous British weight loss specialist Michael Mosley is sure that it is easier to lose weight than it seems to many. The expert claims that this process is significantly facilitated by one simple habit that can be developed in a matter of days.

In his podcast Just One Thing, Dr. Michael talked about simple ways to lose weight, one of which is to walk more. According to him, daily walking “can have a long-term effect on health by lowering blood sugar levels and burning an amazing amount of calories.”

It is not necessary to turn on the counter and do the notorious 10 thousand steps a day (although this is a great practice if you have the strength and time). A short 15-minute walk is enough. If you live near your place of work or study, you can give up public transport at least a couple of times a week and walk. Or go outside at lunchtime and do a couple of laps around the area.

If you don’t have time for regular walks at all, stop. Yes, Mosley claims that this is better than continuous sitting. According to the expert, to burn extra calories, it is enough to get up from your desk for just a few minutes every hour.

Dr. Michael refers to a study in which office workers were asked to stand for three hours a day (distributed in uniform time intervals) for a week. “We found that standing increases the heart rate so much that in a year you will burn as many calories as you would burn after running 10 marathons,” the expert quotes the authors of the study.

“Getting up from a chair and spending more time on your feet is a really simple and easy way to improve your health,” Michael sums up. However, it is important not to overdo it and start small. Otherwise , prolonged standing or walking can lead to varicose veins and back pain .
